Pupil Premium Funding

 
The Pupil Premium is allocated to schools for children who are known to be eligible for Free School Meals (FSM) at any time during the previous six years and to children who have been looked after continuously for more than six months.
 
There is also separate Pupil Premium support for children whose parents are currently serving in the Armed Forces and a Catch-Up Premium for those Year 7 pupils who were below level 4 in their Key Stage 2 English or Maths SATs.
 
Strategies for Closing the Disadvantage Gap
 
No single solution can meet the needs of all pupils and we therefore use a range of strategies to support our Pupil Premium pupils’ progress, particularly in Mathematics and English, but also across a range of subjects. We also provide opportunities for participation in a range of support in such areas as uniform purchase, trips and activities, equipment, ICT hardware and musical tuition. Our approach remains flexible to meet the needs of pupils across the whole ability range.
 
Our work with these pupils is of course an addition to the many and varied strategies we have in place for all of our pupils, and some of the extra resource that Pupil Premium funding provides also has a direct benefit to all of our pupils.
As well as applying the our own knowledge of what works best for our pupils we have also made use of research papers by both Ofsted and the Sutton Trust, to most effectively deploy this extra funding.
 
Such was our commitment to narrowing the gap, that we allocated more than the Pupils Premium funding alone, effectively further subsidising Pupil Premium Children.

Pupil Premium Funding 2014 - 2015
 
The Academy has 138 pupils in receipt of Pupil Premium finding this year, at a new rate of £935 per pupil. This equates to an additional funding of £129 000. We also will be in receipt of further funding for Year 7 Catch Up, Service Children and Looked After Children.
 
Strategies to be adopted for Closing the Gap
 
Due to the success of the strategies adopted last year, in particular the use of specialist Maths and English staff to support small group interventions, we will continue to further develop our current strategies as outlined in the linked document below. We will of course evaluate and refine our strategies in our continuing efforts to address disadvantage.
 
Parents/carers and staff will be made aware of the extra funding available to individual pupils to enable them to request funding for specific resources, support for extra-curricular activities/trips and tuition, as appropriate.
 
We shall continue to adopt best practice, for example as identified by Ofsted and the Sutton Trust, always looking to meet the individual needs of pupils.
